Secondary and Post Secondary Options for the Deaf

With the understanding that there is virtually nothing that a deaf child/person can't do, deaf people have a multitude of options available to them. If a deaf child/teenager is mainstreaming, they can go to a public high school with the use of an educational interpreter. State schools for the deaf offer high school programs with a growing percentage of students going on to higher education. There are also institutions of higher learning especially for the deaf such as Gallaudet University, the only university specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing and National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). Finally, with the passing of IDEA and other laws, institutions of higher learning are required to provide interpreters, as a requirement for equal access, for students attending their school.
